The images above are part of a project that explored two simultaneous methods of documenting via audio recording and the photographic process. Each exposure provided the length of the audio recording. Within those spaces several movements were performed. The project was presented as an installation. Each image was made with an 8x10 view camera, hand processed, and contact printed on photographic paper. The recordings were made with the microphones that are shown in the photograph. The exposures were timed between five minutes to three hours. Click on the image to show a different photograph.
Nathan Butler performs with various electronic systems that respond to both the vigorous movements of his body and the situation of the live performance. He lives and works in Chicago. He holds an MFA in Sound from the School of the Art Institute. Nathan has enjoyed the company of many exciting artists who have been gracious enough to share their works with him. He is thereby indebted to respond.
